Not Trickling Down: The Percentage Of Americans In Poverty Now Equals China
We are supposed to be the wealthiest country on the planet, and we do have some of the most wealthy people, but also a huge amount of poverty-stricken people. Yet we have 31 million children living in poverty which is approximately one in five of all children. One in three (36%) African-American children live in poverty and 31% of Latino children live in poverty.
As the article says, "In twenty years, there will be more than just minority children living in poverty because Republicans have set in motion a deeper income inequality than exists in America today."
China is known for having a large number of peasants, but we now match them. Their middle class is increasing while ours is decreasing, and their growth rate is around 10% per year while ours is standing still or receding.
As I read this morning (supposedly a joke), America's economy is so bad that Angelina Jolie is thinking of adopting an American child.
