Lame or Fame? Leroy Neiman

You know - the guy who gets all the free drinks for painting on bar menus?  His paintings in Paris always show alot of female leg.  He's a bit impressionistic and uses color, but you must get alot of money for painting things like the Tour de France.

I have been very fortunate to find great success doing something I love. My paintings and prints are in fine museums and galleries all over the world. They also appear in films, TV programs, magazines and books. Unfortunately, this kind of exposure often attracts imitators and people looking to make a quick, dishonest buck. Some people try to paint in my style. Some simply sell pirated copies of my work. Some claim to be my publisher or agent or even my exclusive representative, when they are not. Some of these people have their own websites where they offer these images to the public. Part of my enthusiasm for this website is that it enables me to set the record straight and warn the public about these impostors. (Leroy Neiman)

Thomas Kinkade: Modern Norman Rockwell

My inspiration for this image came from Norman Rockwell's The Homecoming Marine, the most collected cover in the rich history of the Saturday Evening Post. In this image, the well-worn bus makes its dusty way down the unpaved road. It has been down this same route many times, but never on such a joyous mission. The homecoming soldier is greeted by his family, reminding us that life can once more return to normal. My own father came home triumphantly after his generation's war. World War II was a time of extraordinary service and yet great rejoicing as the soldiers made their way home to neighborhoods, towns and cities throughout the country.

Seattle House Decorates Inclusively for Holidays, Seasons, Belief Systems

I first encountered this amazing display in my (Maple Leaf) neighborhood in daylight, and then returned at night with the family.  There were sections for each religion, season, holiday and for special interests such as sports, tropical vacations and tools. 

Some daylight examples included: Sea Life, Bees in Garden, Toys, Flag motif.

There were illumnated displays for Judaism, Buddhism & a hat tip to Gay Pride.

94 Year Old Is New Hot Item in Art World

She has painted for six decades.

Carmen Herrera is an abstract painter but didn't sell her work til five years ago, at 89.  She is Cuban-born.  Since that sale, collectors have avidly sought her work and it is in permanent collections of places like MOMA and the Tate Modern. She persevered because painting was pleasurable.  She did it for the sake of art.  She is a minimalist and a colorist. Reading the whole article makes me want to be her, emulate her.  (slugbug)
