(Wondered what Max Blumenthal had been up to!!)
Lifting the Hood Off Rick Perry: Was His Family In The Ku Klux Klan?
Max starts out by discussing Perry's recent foray into "Birtherism" and reminds us that this opens up the whole idea of Perry's own background. He points out that Perry grew up in a town that has "Niggertown" on one side, and that he hunted and entertained guests at his family's "Niggerhead" facility. His town (Haskell) has also been a stronghold of the Ku Klux Klan, who controlled Texas politics in the last century via their 150,000 plus membership. This declined only by the Depression. Even when Perry was in college, at Texas A&M in 1968, some students posed for yearbook photos in Klan robes, while others formed a dairy group called the “Kream and Kow Klub” — KKK. Today, an underground Klan chapter operates in West Texas, and in 2010.
All Perry is doing is pointing out his own racist family and community nurturing. (Photo is 1992 Texas Klan rally, thanks to M. Blumenthal for image)
As for Perry's "compassion" -
