When I first came to Seattle in 1978, the Green River Killer was in full attack mode and I was warned not to carry books for a guy with a broken leg named Ted (Bundy) on the UW campus, if asked. I remember going to "Take Back the Night" rallies and hearing everyone from University feminists to sex workers speak out against violence against women.
Now, it seems the perennial problem of "blaming the victim" for rape and violence against women is rearing its ugly head and women are fighting back, taking once again to the streets.
'SlutWalks' taking root in the U.S.
It all started when a Toronto police officer stated that women should stop dressing like "sluts" in connection with violence against women such as rape. This activism has become popular in Canada and US and participants (male and female) may dress provocatively to call attention to the "shaming" behavior such as the police officer originally exhibited. Like the rallies of yore, the walks end with rallies with speakers.

News Hounds: Discussing “Slutwalk” Protests, Hannity And Guest Blame The Pre-Victims Of Rape
Hannity was assisted by a female FOX reporter and a Christian country singer who is into "purity."
the meaning of the word IS changing. young girls prefer to be called a slut rather than a bitch. is this better? I don't know. when I was at highschool, if they started calling you a slut, you could forget it. not one boy would ask you to go out. this has changed, I think. I even found a brand of t-shirts using the word slut, and not in the negative way: http://slutshirt.spreadshirt.com/ is it better? I don't know. but it IS changing. Maybe the time is over that you are either a "decent girl" either a "bitch" or a "slut"

We solved it by going out with out of town guys, which increased the "slut" calling, but we were intending to leave that small town after finishing school any way.
