Both have seen better days, and depended on a clientele that is now aging. Both were showy and over-the-top and innovative in their heyday and attracted visitors from all over the world. The Crystal Cathedral featured charismatic sermons and shows with live animals. The Liberace museum contained one-of-a-kind pianos and costumes. Both are plagued by decreased attendance and financial problems. The Liberace Museum will close down and the Crystal Cathedral filed bankruptcy today.

To me, what was unique about Dr Shuler was his "drive-in theater church." It was like Jesus' preaching, very humble. When he decided to build the Crystal Cathedral it spelled "BIG MONEY" and brought in a whole different class of people, "RICH." After all, I think the "drive in" come as you are, even in your pj's, was very special. But like Thomas Wolfe said "you can't go home again." Sigh. . .
