Scientists do not specifically make a parallel with humans, but view this behavior more as something that could explain the origins of "teamwork." But you have to wonder, because they invade the territory of others in order to expand their own. Some engage in gang rape. They seize the resources of others. The attacks are perpetrated by male-dominated communities. One such attack netted the invading chimps a 22% gain in territory. The chimps engaged in routine stealth boundary patrols into territory adjacent to their own and then took it over. They were all adult and adolescent males and they proceeded to attack and kill females and infants from a neighboring area. This behavior had been documented somewhat, for years, but the new study was more scientific, and was done by a behavioral ecology team who tracked and observed the behavior.
All of this reminds me of an Orwell quote:
"The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by his own side, but he has a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them." ~ George Orwell
