John McCain - "Maverick" Situation UPDATE

 Here is what I saw at Salon today.  

"Look, when I was fighting against my own president, whether we needed more troops in Iraq, or... spending was completely out of control, then I was a maverick. Now that I'm fighting against this spending administration and this out-of-control and reckless health care plan, then I'm a partisan." -- John McCain

Here is what we ran on April 6.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), in the midst of trying to fight off a primary challenger who claims McCain is too moderate, is now going back on his most famous nickname: "I never considered myself a maverick."

 McCain, his running mate Sarah Palin and his entire campaign constantly referred to him as a "maverick."
