Woodstock meets paper dolls. Of course. | Jacket Copy | Los Angeles Times
Includes full-color paper versions of Jerry Garcia, Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, Grace Slick, Carlos Santana and Roger Daltrey. Despite the subtitle -- "40th Anniversary Flashback Edition" -- it's new from Dover Publications. The 40th anniversary of Woodstock has come and gone, but the festival is still on our minds, mostly because Ang Lee's film "Taking Woodstock" opened nationwide Friday. The book's artist, Tom Tierney, has been illustrating paper doll books since 1976; his catalog includes President Obama, ancient Egypt, Medieval costumes, French fashion designers, Princess Diana, movie pirates, American pin-up girls of the 1940s, Art Deco fashions and characters from literature. The man's got range, if a slightly awkward feel for these rock 'n' rollers.
