Berlusconi-G8-Internet
The Italian Prime Minister told postal workers:
"The G8 has as its task the regulation of financial markets... I think the next G8 can bring to the table a proposal for a regulation of the internet."
He's head of the G8 again starting January 1. This role rotates, but last time (also under Berlusconi), there were riots at the annual meeting in Genoa. Berlusconi owns much mass media in Italy. Dictatorial regimes like China, Iran, Cuba and Saudi Arabia filter their internet and UK and Australia are cracking down. Italian bloggers will display anti-Berlusconi banners on their websites tomorrow. Expect protests at the G8.
