American Apparel is using Woody's image to sell their products but did not first obtain his permission. He intends to sue for 10 million dollars as he does not normally endorse commercial products.
American Apparel manufacturers its clothing in America. They avoid outsourcing and control all aspects of production, so can put ideas into production rapidly. They pride themselves on being sweatshop-free. Normally their advertising is provocative and sometimes controversial. Many of their models are recruited directly from the street and they are trend setters. AA has 185 stores in 13 countries. They pay roughly $500/week for factory work, compared with $150-200 for their competitors, and they have decent benefits. I am including some gratuitous shots in the interest of research.
