Who is the real African? the Diplomat?

Drudge reveals that Clinton campaign recently emailed out this photo of Obama in 2006, dressed as a Kenyan elder while in Africa. Obama actually had a Kenyan father and his "roots" are well described in his books. Another candidate is throwing stones, perhaps in light of her "high negatives." When dignitaries travel, they sometimes partake of culture and costumes. A look at foreign press and the support from voters living abroad suggests that Obama would do well in respecting and uniting cultures, building bridges. He has a real history, he is an amalgam, more representative - not a chameleon looking for constant photo-ops like our reluctant-to-travel President. Obama would be such a better representative. Attacking his background only serves to make the attacker (and America) appear more racist to the rest of the world. Slugbug

Jon Stewart at the Oscars

Jon Stewart in his monologue lamented that Iraq war movies were not widely attended like the movie Juno, a film about a pregnant teenager that contains a song by Cat Power as part its soundtrack.

Then he took a swipe at John McCain's statement that he would be ok leaving US troops in Iraq another 100 years.

Not all films did as well as Juno obviously. The films that were made about the Iraq war, let’s face it, did not do as well. But I’m telling you, if we stay the course and keep these movies in the theatres we can turn this around. I don’t care if it takes 100 years. Withdrawing the Iraq movies would only embolden the audience. We cannot let the audience win.

The winning documentary was about Afghanistan, "Taxi to the Darkside," a story about the rendition of an Afghani taxi driver who was murdered a few days after being held in US custody.

And CNN is the Republican partner in spreading this propaganda. They have posted the following poll on the home page of CNN.com. Why don't they ask about Bush's patriotism? Bush was AWOL from the national guard and in the past 7 years has committed numerous high crimes and misdemeanors. IMPEACH.

After correcting what they said was a programming error in a spreadsheet column, they allocated Obama three delegate votes (six delegates, each with a half-vote), and Clinton 1.5 delegate votes (three delegates, each with a half-vote). They had earlier reported that Obama had won 2.5 delegate votes, to 2 for Clinton.



I have been reading the foreign websites devoted to voting when you are an American living abroad. It turns out that the Republicans don't have a Global Primary.

The global primary was held between Feb. 5-12, capturing the majority among American expats. Democrats Abroad is an official arm of the Democratic party. It's hard to get a good "picture," obviously, as voters were spread literally all over the globe, and sent ballots by mail, fax, at poll centers, or over the internet via a new secure system.

Senator Clinton won the Israeli American vote, with 54%. (There are 200,000 Israeli American citizens.) She also won the Dominican Republic and the Philippines. 164 countries were represented, from Antarctica to Zambia, and Obama captured 66% overall. Therefore, he received 2.5 delegate votes and Clinton 2. There are also 4 Democrats Abroad superdelegate.

"With the U.S. image so badly damaged by the present Administration, American Democrats living overseas were eager to have their voices heard," Christine Schon Marques, International Chair of Democrats Abroad, said from Geneva. "Across the board we saw an enormous diversity in participation, including many first-time voters."

For the first-time ever, online voting enabled Democrats in every corner of the world to take part - including Adam Lutchansky, a researcher at the U.S. scientific mission at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. "The online primary expanded the frontier of voting opportunities, and it works easily, even from the harshest continent on Earth,” Lutchansky said.

Democrats Abroad Regional Caucuses will take place in Brussels on March 15 and 16, 2008, for Europe-Middle East-Africa and in Vancouver, BC, on April 11, 2008, for the Americas and Asia-Pacific. The Democrats Abroad Global Convention will take place in Vancouver, BC, April 12-13. The Democratic National Convention will take place in Denver, Colorado, August 25-28.

Apparently the Republicans have delegates abroad - they just don't use a democratic process to select them.

(AP) Ralph Nader is launching a third-party campaign for president. The consumer advocate made the announcement Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press." He says most Americans are disenchanted with the Democratic and Republican parties, and that none of the presidential contenders are addressing ways to stem corporate crime and Pentagon waste and promote labor rights. Nader also ran as a third-party candidate in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections. He is still loathed by many Democrats who call him a spoiler and claim his candidacy in 2000 cost the party the election by siphoning votes away from Al Gore in a razor-thin contest in Florida.

(Wall Street Journal) Barack Obama said today during a visit at the Ohio State University Medical Center that he wasn’t terribly concerned about the prospect of a Nader campaign. “I think the job of the Democratic Party is to be so compelling that a few percentage [points] of the vote going to another candidate is not going to make any difference.”

Meanwhile, champion fundraiser and antiwar thorn in the side of the Republicans, Ron Paul - announces he will not run as a third party candidate. Ten terms in Congress, bringing in $6 million in one day, $18 million in less than 3 months .. advocate of return to the gold standard and abolition of federal income tax .. his message resonated with many and he was arguably the "grassroots" phenomenon of this election.

Huckabee made an appearance in a comedy skit on the television show «Saturday Night Live» that played on his reluctance to quit the race by having him miss his cue, twice, to leave the set.
