On April 4, 2007 Professor Juan Cole presented a lecture with the title of this post at the University of Minnesota. Juan Cole is well known for his blog, informed comment. His approach is novel. Most scholars publish their work exclusively in academic journals. Given that Professor Cole's area of study is important to national policy and that corporate media are selective in what they present, he has taken to the internet to get the word out. His talk covered this topic. He encourages intellectuals to join him in shaping policy using this unconventional yet powerful approach.
Professor Cole's talk and question session that followed lasted about 1 hour and 45 minutes. An mp3 of this entire session is posted here: Download juan_cole.MP3
. The file size is huge - about 48 MB so I wouldn't try to listen to it unless you have a fast connection. Also, the first few minutes of the recording is audience noise prior to the talk.
That's awesome! I can't listen tonight yet but Juan Cole is someone I have depended on to get information about what the hell is going on.
