________Bush's celebrates 59th birthday________
US President George Bush spent his 59th birthday at a sprawling royal palace in Denmark where he stopped to thank the Danes for sending troops to Iraq and Afghanistan. A Danish pipe and drum corps was set to play Happy Birthday to Bush for his meeting with Prime Minister Rasmussen, where the president was to express appreciation for the 500 troops the Scandinavian nation has contributed to the US-led fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan despite popular opposition in both Denmark and the US.
Bush vigorously defended his foreign policy Wednesday as he headed toward the summit meeting of the big industrial nations, and signaled that he would not budge on one of the most contentious issues dividing the United States from its allies: global warming. The president later grazed his hands while bicycling when he collided with a police officer. Bush was bandaged by the White House doctor and his plan to have dinner with Queen Elizabeth II were not affected.
______Dalai Lama Celebrates 70th Birthday in Exile_____
About 10,000 Tibetan refugees, monks and foreign tourists braved pouring rain to gather outside the home of the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala. Traditional dancers greeted the Dalai Lama as he entered a pavilion decorated with Tibetan flags and banners honoring the man many say embodies Tibet's struggle for autonomy. Many of the pilgrims risked a dangerous journey from Chinese-occupied Tibet to mark the occasion. All public displays of reverence for the Dalai Lama are banned in China, while the rest of the world has come to view the Dalai as a spiritual figure of international stature.
The Dalai Lama told those gathered that every day can be used to accomplish something positive. He also pledged that as long as he lives, he will continue to work in service of others.
