Interesting fact: Susan Komen Cancer Foundation hired a anti-abortion activist, former right-wing candidate, and " Sarah Palin acolyte" to be their SVP of policy development. A written policy came out that organizations under investigation could not be funded. Anti-abortionists then pressured for Planned Parenthood to be investigated... you know the rest. Are SKCF's policies about affiliation becoming more right wing? Hmmm. Like, what's with the pink gun branded with their logo?
Apparently there was some backlash which caused the Komen Foundation to backtrack some, but it is premature to trust them, and permanent PR damage may have been done to their "brand."
In May 2009, Smith & Wesson very publicly announced its first quarterly donation to Komen's Massachusetts' branch. The company was able to fundraise by designing this "M&P9 JG in collaboration with Professional Shooter Julie Goloski Golobwith the intent that a portion of the proceeds would benefit breast cancer awareness. The full-size pistol is engraved with the 'Awareness Ribbon' on the slide and is packaged with two pink grip inserts (small and medium) along with the three standard black grip inserts."
(Komen Foundation denied the fundraising gun, initially.)
I thought "how stupid they have a plastic pink gun, what message is that sending?" It's a real gun for crissakes! What the?! Thanks for pointing it out. That's crazy.
