He's ten years old and refused to say the "Pledge of Allegiance" til "liberty and justice for all" if extended to gays and lesbians as well as others.
He lives in Arkansas and is a fifth grader.
When his substitute teacher confronted him about his refusal to say the pledge, he waited several minutes and then said, "With all due respect ma'am, go jump off a bridge." He was sent to the Principal's office, where he was made to read about the flag and what it represents. He wouldn't back down. His mother then Twittered about it, the media took notice, The boy's interpretation continued to be that it was his Constitutional right not to say the pledge. He has been taunted and called "gay" but sticks to his convictions.
A reporter for the paper asked Will -- with all this talk about patriotism and the pledge -- what he thinks it means to be an American. "Freedom of speech," he responded. "The freedom to disagree. That's what I think pretty much being an American represents."
