I saw him walk through (McDermott) but his staff wouldn't let me hand him my letter personally. All I got was this picture. Everyone seemed tense maybe because people are doing things like painting swastikas on Congressmen's walls?. I had flashbacks to the week just before the Iraq war started, for some reason. Maybe the obstructionists to health care overlap with the obstructionists to peace. I have always remembered the Congressman Jim McDermott is a physician - a psychiatrist who worked with Vietnam Vets since the '70s, who went to Africa and was concerned about AIDS before it was the thing to be, who looked into depleted uranium and its effects during the Gulf War instead of waiting til years later, and advocated for people like my schizophrenic sister. That does not even scratch the surface.
For some reason, Group Health had taken over Westlake Mall (though I hear they're one of the two successful long-running health co-ops in the country, the other being in Minneapolis.) The sign about Children's Health was at the bottom of McDermott's office window and the newspaper headline was at the bus stop I waited at. "No shit," I thought, when I read the headline. There is a McDermott appearance in West Seattle tomorrow but I'll be working. I'll find the information and post it. I heard that the Rick Larsen event went well.

But, we don't want a government bureaucrat standing between us and our healthcare!!! Or the elderly worried that they don't want government touching their Medicare or determining who is going to live and die... the American mentality is just mind-boggling.
