Air America is apparently reporting this and one of the headlines I see says McCain is denying it. McCain is internet illiterate but his staff aren't. According to Newsweek , they "cut and paste" from Wikipedia on the topic of the Russia-Georgia crisis and the editor of Wikipedia busted them.
McCain's text said:
..one of the world's first nations to adopt Christianity as an official religion..

McCain's foreign policy:
After a brief period of independence following the Russian revolution, the Red Army forced Georgia to join the Soviet Union in 1922. As the Soviet Union crumbled at the end of the Cold War, Georgia regained its independence in 1991, but its early years were marked by instability, corruption, and economic crises.
Wikipedia:
After the Russian Revolution of 1917, Georgia had a brief period of independence as a Democratic Republic (1918-1921), which was terminated by the Red Army invasion of Georgia. Georgia became part of the Soviet Union in 1922 and regained its independence in 1991. Early post-Soviet years were marked by a civil unrest and economic crisis.
The McCain campaign insists these similarities were purely coincidental. Either McCain has a naive intern doing the research or perhaps he has learned to "surf the web" and doesn't realize that millions of others are reading Wikipedia also!
UPDATE:
I am reading on an Obama list that Obama's top foreign policy advisor (Scheunemann) is a lobbyist for Georgia who helps them obtain weapons from the US and advises Georgia strategically. They have visited Georgia together 15 times since 2004 and they've been "advising" them and so Putin can blame the Georgian invasion on them. We would start off a McCain presidency with animosity between him & Putin.
Russia has the 3rd largest military in the world and still maintains a nuclear arsenal which is pointed directly as the US. They have allies including China, much of middle east including Iran and any regime which sides against US. McC may think he could slide right in were a larger war to start.
