I did this same exercise before the 2004 elections. The dictators came from Parade magazine, but I added the guy in the center, inspired by the Atlantic Monthly article entitled "Why Presidents Lie." For the candidates, I went to their websites, looking for a general impression. I pictures them as disembodied cardboard cutouts floating in front of patriotic stripes, dynamically advancing and receding. They are identified by current or former job but not by party affiliation. It's amazing that the media focus on only the ones shown with larger heads. Click on these and you can see more detail, down to the tacks in my wall. (Slugbug)
