Bettie Page was commissioned by a guy who has been a fan since his teens, to the chagrin of the Church of the Latter Day Saints next door. This painting can be seen from the freeway and was written up this week at http://www.thestranger.com. Someone complained to the city about graffiti, but the owner countered that this is art. The Hendrix reference is one of several in the city. There is a statue on Broadway, there is a small monument at Woodland Park Zoo's African Savannah, and Jimi's grave is in Kent, outside Seattle. There is mere tagging, then there are murals. The Blue Moon Tavern was a favorite hangout for beat writers Kerouac, Ginsberg etc. The Afghan painting incorporates a very famous National Geographic image. I added graffiti, because I love it.
