New Orleans Noir II - The Last Evening

Walked down Bourbon Street - smoky with Cuban cigars and people sinning away in the Bible Belt - maybe that's why so many places don't allow photographs. Went to Marie Leveau's voodoo shop - best part is the altar that can't be touched or something bad will befall the violator.  

 

Further on down, really great bar that projected Grace Jones video onto the building across the street. Great window displays.

Partying with ASHA at Mardi Gras World

I've gone to this convention in Vegas, San Antonio, Austin, San Diego, Seattle, New Orleans, Anaheim, Washington DC etc. over more than 3 decades and we've had some good parties - like adults-only Disneyland.  Going to Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World was a trip though - tonight we had beer, jambalaya, red beans & rice, pasta primavera and brisket and then were at liberty to wander among the past and future Mardi Gras float parts!  Here are my colleagues and I exiting the shuttle bus.

Hurricane Katrina & Environmental Consciousness

It was pleasing to find that quite a number of New Orleans merchants were avoiding the use of plastic bags after having seen what happened after Hurricane Katrina.  There had been documentary footage of countless plastic bags up in the trees in Louisiana and Mississippi, with plenty of the Walmart type with the Happy Face on them.

Joe Biden didn't make it to the Awards Ceremony at the American Speech and Hearing Association but former astronaut and Senator John Glenn and his wife Annie Glenn did.  They had met at the White House with Joe Biden, as both her and Annie Glenn overcame stuttering problems.

Then on to the various University parties at the Marriott, with free food - University of TX had gumbo with crawfish and shrimp, and bread pudding.  Some of the others had crab cakes and lots of other goodies.

Our convention was apparently not the only show in town.
